Student Accommodation FAQ

  • Do I meet the host family before I move in?
You will meet your family the day that you arrive in Argentina and move into your housing. All of our host families have been checked and approved by an Expanish staff member, and most of them have been working with us for a long time, meaning they have hosted lots of students.
  • Is it just one student per homestay?
We have many homestays that we work with, and some families host only one student while other families host many students at once. Many of our hosts only have one room available (since large homes are not common in Buenos Aires) so we cannot guarantee you will be with other students but if you have a preference one way or the other, feel free to note this when you register for a program and we will do our best to accommodate your special request within our network of host families.
  • Do all homestays have WiFi?
Yes, all of our housing options come with guaranteed WiFi.
  • Where are the homestays located?
All of our homestays are located in the best neighborhoods of the city and always within 40 minutes of the Expanish school, but many of them are much closer than 40 minutes as that is the maximum commute. Buenos Aires is a very large city, so it is common for students to take public transportation (subway or bus) to get to the school each day, just like the locals do.
  • Can I live walking distance to the school?
The best neighborhoods to live in (Recoleta, Palermo, Belgrano, etc) are not within walking distance of downtown (where the school is located). These areas do have the best nightlife but they also have the nicest parks and the best restaurants, and it is where everyone lives (students, visitors and families). If walking is a top priority for you, please note that when you register. Although we cannot guarantee it, we always take into account a student's preferences when looking at our network of host families.
  • Can I have my host’s email address?
Because our hosts often do not check their email, we prefer students to contact us directly if they have any questions about their Homestay or Shared Apartment. If you would like to say “hello” to your host, we can happily give you a phone number you can reach them by.
