What is Bildungsurlaub?
"Bildungsurlaub" is a special training concept that allows employees in Germany to take time off for professional or personal training. It is a legal entitlement for a paid time off work in order to take part in recognized training courses. The aim of educational leave is to promote lifelong learning and give employees the opportunity to expand their professional and personal skills.
Bildungsurlaub offers employees the opportunity to further their education without having to take their regular annual leave. Employers benefit in the long term from qualified, motivated employees who can contribute to the company's success with new knowledge and skills.
In most federal states, both full-time and part-time employees are legally entitled to educational leave. The prerequisite is that the employer is based in the respective federal state and that the training meets the legal requirements.
