Spanish Immersion Program for Teachers in Barcelona

Spanish courses for Teachers in Spain takes place over the course of two weeks in Barcelona, as a development program that has been created for Spanish as a foreign language teachers. The course contains theoretical classes as well as teaching practice consisting of leading Expanish Spanish lessons.

The material of this course is designed for native of non-native Spanish speakers who teach the language either as a second language or a foreign language. In order to participate in this course, students must have at least a C1 level, certified by the CEFR. Spanish Lessons for Teachers in Barcelona Content

The Spanish for Teachers in Spain course focuses on theoretical frameworks revolving around a variety of teaching methods of existing ELE as well as demonstrate the different methods possible for incorporating the communicative method within a Spanish class. The course will participants with the practical tools they will need to structure their own ELE classrooms by offering a range of resources, such as:

  • How to structure a class
  • Manage student-teacher interactions
  • Identify and teach different learning types
  • How to present grammar and vocabulary
  • Adapt and prepare didactic materials
  • Best practices for using images, audio, and video (ICT)
  • How to Incorporate educational games and activities in a classroom
  • Diminish and correct common mistakes and errors
  • Evaluate student progress

Spanish for Teachers Course Structure

The course consists of 25 lessons, where in 20 lessons will cover theoretical material, allowing participants to discuss the implementation of what they have learned. The classes will take place Monday-Friday from 9:30am-1:30 pm. In the remaining 5 lessons, participants will present themselves as teaching assistants, allowing them the opportunity to put in to practice the theoretical knowledge in a real classroom comprised of students from across the world with a variety of Spanish levels. These practical lessons will take place the second week of the course.

The Methodology of Evaluation and Certification

The final course evaluations contain an exam as well as two practical presentations, which will consist of arranging a sample class with its corresponding didactic material (physical and visual). Both punctuality and attendance will be evaluated, requiring at least  80% attendance of theoretical classes and 100% of practices. At the close of the program, each student will receive an official certificate of participation.
