Study Abroad Programs in Spain, Costa Rica, and Argentina
Every Expanish program is designed around a simple question: what does a U.S. university student actually need to make this work? The answer is always the same: transferable credits, a schedule that fits their degree, a price financial aid can cover, and people in the city who know what they're doing. That's what you'll find across all five types of programs, in all three countries, year-round.
Fall & Spring Semesters Abroad

A semester abroad is the longest, and most life-changing, program we offer. You'll take university-level courses, build a real routine, learn to navigate a new city, and actually get to know the place. By week four, you stop being a tourist. This is for students who want to go deep, not just go.
Program Length: 12–16 weeks
Academic Credit: You'll return with 12–15 transferable U.S. college credits on an official American transcript and a semester on your résumé that actually means something.
Best For: Students wanting full credit transfer, or any student whose home university has an approved Expanish partnership
Every semester program is thoughtfully structured to combine academic rigor with meaningful cultural engagement, ensuring you return home with transferable credit and a global perspective.
Semester or Summer Internships Abroad

You'll be placed at a real company in your field, in Barcelona, Madrid, Buenos Aires, or San José. Marketing, tech, sustainability, hospitality, nonprofits, media: our internship coordinators match your placement to your major and career goals. You work, take Spanish classes, and earn academic credit. It's the experience every employer asks about in interviews.
Each internship program includes:
Customized professional placement
Academic seminar component for credit
Dedicated internship coordinator and on-site support
You'll leave with international work experience, a professional reference abroad, and credits that count toward your degree. The story you'll tell in every interview for the next ten years.
Make Your Summer Count Abroad

Our summer study abroad programs deliver the same academic quality and cultural depth as our longer-term options, condensed into a flexible format ideal for U.S. university summer breaks.
Each summer session integrates classroom learning with hands-on cultural experiences, encouraging students to connect coursework with real-world context.
Program Length: 4–6 weeks
Academic Credit: Up to 6 U.S. college credits
Best For: Students who want to study abroad without missing a full semester or students who want to try a city before committing to a semester program
Summer participants gain immersive international experience while staying on track toward graduation. You'll return for fall semester with transferable credits already on the books and a summer that didn't feel like a waste.
Earn Research Credit Abroad

If you're building toward graduate school, a thesis, or a research career, you don't have to pause your academic work to study abroad. Our research programs pair you with local university faculty and institutions in your discipline, so you continue your research in an international context, earn transferable credits, and develop Spanish alongside it.
Through these programs, students can:
Conduct field or academic research within their discipline
Collaborate with international scholars and institutions
Combine research with Spanish language coursework
Research programs are ideal for students seeking in-depth academic engagement, faculty mentorship, and a global research perspective.
Intensive Spanish Programs. 1 to 3 Months, Any Time of Year

Expanish started as a Spanish language school and that's still at the core of what we do. Take our intensive Spanish program on its own, stack it onto a semester or internship, or use it to get ahead before your main program starts. New cohorts begin every month of the year, in every city we operate.
Our Spanish programs offer:
Intensive language courses beginning each month
Small classes in a multicultural environment
Options for all proficiency levels, from beginner to advanced
Best For: J-term, May term, gap semester, or as an add-on to any Expanish program
Spanish courses can be taken independently or alongside a study abroad, internship, or research program, giving you the flexibility to strengthen your language skills in an immersive setting.
All levels welcome, from absolute beginner to advanced. Small classes (multicultural classrooms). Accredited instruction that meets U.S. credit standards.

The Questions U.S. Students Ask Before They Apply
Academics & Credits

Expanish is accredited through our U.S.-based School of Record, which issues an official American university transcript for all courses you complete, not just Spanish classes. Every credit is designed to transfer to your home institution. Before you depart, your Expanish advisor helps you get pre-approval from your department, so there are no surprises when you return.
Financial Aid & Study Abroad Scholarships

Expanish accepts all types of U.S. financial aid: FAFSA, institutional grants, study abroad scholarships, and private loans, toward any of our academic programs. We also offer the annual Expanish Scholarship: $1,000 off your program fees, applied directly to your balance. Because we own our study centers directly, our program pricing doesn't include the middleman markup that larger providers charge.
Health and Safety

Every Expanish city has a local emergency contact number and an on-site student services team reachable around the clock. Before you arrive, we send a full pre-departure safety guide. When you land, there's airport pickup and a neighborhood orientation so you know your area before you're on your own. Our staff grew up in these cities, they know the hospitals, pharmacies, and what to do in a real emergency.
Our Study Abroad Centers
We plan each study abroad program and center with YOU in mind! Modern spaces, central locations, and a team in the building every day. See what's waiting in Barcelona, Madrid, Málaga, Buenos Aires, San José, and Sámara.

Recently remodeled, bright classrooms, café spaces, and social areas designed for the way students actually use a building.
Centrally located in walkable neighborhoods, a short walk from student housing, transit, and the parts of the city worth exploring.
4 staff-organized activities every week: city tours, cooking classes, flamenco nights, football matches, and more. Your social life is taken care of from day one.
