Arrival and First Day
Get ready for your first day at Expanish
Welcome to Expanish!
Arriving in a foreign country can be an overwhelming experience. We want you to feel at home as quickly as possible, so our international team will be on hand to help you settle in. When you enter one of our schools for the first time, we assure you that you will be greeted by a friendly and professional team of highly trained teachers and support staff.
All of us here at Expanish are excited to bring together a diverse mix of students from around the world to learn Spanish in Spain or Argentina. We know the first day can be intimidating, so to ease your nerves a little bit, here’s some of what you can expect on your arrival and first day at an Expanish language school.
Arrival
Prior to arrival in Spain or Argentina you must make sure you have understood all local immigration laws and entry requirements - clear here (link al Visa footer) for more information on getting a student visa.
When you arrive, a secure and reliable airport transfer by private car is available through Expanish. Students can book just a pick up or drop off service or both ways. There is a discount for booking a two-way transfer service. All flight details need to be sent to us 7 days in advance in order to organize a transfer service.
Your first day at Expanish
Placement Test
Prior to your arrival you should take an online written test to help determine what level of Spanish you already have. On your first day you’ll also take a brief Spanish oral test before starting classes. There’s no need to worry about these tests - they are just to allow us to assess your knowledge and use of Spanish so we can place you in the appropriate class level. If you have not completed the written test prior to arrival, you can take both the written and oral tests on the first morning of your course.
Welcome Pack
You will receive a welcome pack on the first day at Expanish which includes useful tourist information about your destination, details about your classes, and (where it is available) a student benefit card to gain discounts in the city. This includes an awesome and eco-friendly canvas bag. We even provide you with a pen and pad of paper so you are fully prepared for your first Spanish class!
New Student Orientation
On your first day you and other students will be provided with more information about our weekly social activities. At our schools in Barcelona and Madrid there is also a welcome tour every Monday for new arrivals. Once orientation is completed, you will be assigned a Spanish level, classroom, teacher, and a schedule for the rest of the week.
What to Bring
Our welcome packs include all the important materials you need to get started with your Spanish course and settle in to your new host city. All you really have to bring is enthusiasm and be ready to learn Spanish!
We’re here to support you!
If there are any problems upon arrival at your destination - either at the airport, in the city, or at your selected housing - Expanish staff are always available at the 24/7 emergency number given to all new students.
