What Our US Students Say They Love About Argentina
While the UK and Australia remain popular, more students are choosing Spanish-speaking countries like Argentina to learn the language and gain real-world experience through cultural immersion. In 2022, over 50,000 international students came to Buenos Aires, mostly for short-term Spanish courses.

More and more students in the US are thinking about study abroad opportunities. A recent survey found that 76% of students were considering studying abroad in 2025, up from 73% in 2024.
Many go to traditional destinations like the UK and Australia, but a growing number have set their gaze on Spanish-speaking countries like Argentina, where they can develop language skills and gain real world experience while enjoying travel and cultural immersion. Argentina’s capital, Buenos Aires, drew more than 50,000 international students in 2022 (latest official figures available), with the majority coming for short-term study programs like Spanish courses.
Here at Expanish we’ve been welcoming international students to Buenos Aires for nearly 20 years. We always love seeing how students from the US discover the city’s rich culture, dynamic lifestyle and vibrant nightlife - our job is to make the immersive experience as smooth and exciting as possible.
Testimonies
from American students
“It’s always been a dream of mine to travel, and this was my first time flying.” Dominique is from Texas and on her first adventure abroad is discovering some cultural differences between Argentina and the US. “The driving is really fast here!”, she laughs. “But the people are really polite - back home people will just walk past you but here everyone makes an effort to say ‘hello’ or ‘good morning’. It’s really nice.”
Eva, from Alabama, also says that she has really liked interacting with local people while in Buenos Aires. “I came because I wanted to improve my Spanish and conversational skills”, she says. “I like the city a lot, and it was a very affordable option for me, compared to other Spanish speaking cities available.”
“It also seemed like more fun!”, she adds.
Isaiah, also from Texas, says he was eager to see what was beyond the horizon. “I wanted to get out of my country and see the world. My favourite thing has been to explore the city and take some pictures. It’s been really easy.”
“Studying abroad is a great opportunity to learn more about culture and see different places.” Madison, who is from Minnesota, is reflecting on a positive experience here in Buenos Aires and recommends other US students try it out. “You learn so much - I think it’s such a good experience and Argentina has been great”.
