Environmental Science & Biology + Internship

On this semester program in San José, you’ll immerse yourself in environmental science and biology in one of the world’s most biodiverse countries. Costa Rica becomes your classroom as you explore ecosystems, conservation, and sustainability through academic coursework and hands-on field experiences.
You’ll also gain practical, real-world experience through an internship placement, allowing you to apply your academic knowledge while working in a professional setting.

San José Beyond the Classroom

Learning extends beyond the classroom into Costa Rica’s diverse natural and urban environments. Engage in faculty-led field trips, ecological visits, and local explorations to experience firsthand how conservation, biodiversity, and community life intersect.

At Veritas University, you’ll study alongside both local and international students, gaining a deeper understanding of Costa Rica’s approach to environmental science and biological research.

Credits and Courses while Interning Abroad in Costa Rica

Internship Program at Veritas University

During your semester in Costa Rica, you will combine academic coursework with a professional internship, earning 12–15 U.S. semester credits. You will complete 3–4 courses total, with the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in your chosen field through an internship placement.

Credits Breakdown:

  • 3–6 U.S. credits from your internship placement and related coursework

  • 3–6 U.S. credits from content courses at Veritas University (discipline-specific)

  • 3 U.S. credits from a required Spanish language course at Veritas (for practical communication)

Language of Instruction:

  • English for internship coursework and content courses

  • Spanish for the required language course, focused on practical communication and professional use

Weekly Schedule:

  • Internship hours vary depending on your host organization and placement schedule
