Quick Facts Volunteer Programs

Lessons per Week: 20 group lessons + 15 hours of work commitment per week

Lessons length: Spanish classes are 50 minutes long.

Program Duration: 2 to 24 weeks.

Schedule: Monday to Friday. Spanish classes in the morning and volunteer activities in the afternoon

Spanish Level: opportunities for all levels: A1 to C2.

Class Size: 12 students maximum in Spanish lessons

Program Structure

At the same time to the start of the work placement, volunteers will participate in 2 weeks of Intensive Spanish 20 classes (20 lessons per week) at our Spanish language institute in downtown Buenos Aires. This classes will take place during the morning from Monday to Friday. All levels of Spanish are welcome and volunteers will take classes with students of all ages from all over the world. No matter the current level or placement site, a Spanish jumpstart helps acclimate to the city and prepare for the volunteer work. Work Commitment has an average of 15 hours per week from Monday to Friday and depending on the level of Spanish, there are different areas in which students can participate. Distance to the school is a maximum of 40` by public transport.

All volunteers receive a volunteer orientation at Expanish prior to their placement. The orientation consists of a program coordinator providing in-depth information about volunteering in Argentina as well as specific details about the particular placement. The first Monday, the Expanish staff will accompany each volunteer to their placement location. During this initial visit the volunteer will meet with the organization supervisor and receive an additional on-site orientation. Volunteers will then have periodic check-ins via email as well as 24/7 emergency support.

After School Program for Children

Be a part of building a better future for underprivileged youth by participating in an after-school program.

Teach English

Help to invest in someone`s future by teaching English at a language institute run out of an elementary school. Volunteer will help with lesson planning, lead English conversation classes, and assist local teachers with both children and adults. English speakers are a great asset to language courses as they provide a real-life tool for teachers to utilize in lessons. Teaching English has “blackout” dates from January to March, as well as the month of July. This program is only available for native English speakers or have one of the following qualifications: TOEFL score of 100 or higher, IELTS level 6, CPE, TEFL certified

Working at a Children’s Home

Assist with the day-to-day work at a home where children who have been removed from their families by the court system. Volunteers help prepare meals and snacks, lead activities, play games and are a general positive role model for children in a precarious situation.

Assisting the Elderly at a Community Center

Assist organizations who help house and care for the elderly in vulnerable situations. Lead reading programs, participate in activities and seminars, and help prepare meals and snacks. For many low-income senior citizens, this is the only day-to-day social contact they have and friendly smiles and hugs can have a lasting effect on the quality of their lives.

Tutoring and Academic Support

Help children have a successful academic career by helping them with school work. As educations is the most powerful tool to change the world, volunteers will help show this Argentine students who go to a local community center to learn and have a safe space after school. Volunteer are needed to help provide academic support for the students and help with the day-to-day tasks with the community center.

The complete package: what type of accommodation do you prefer?

The complete package for this program includes different options of accommodation that students can choose. Volunteering can choose from one of four housing options, depending on the living experience they would prefer. All housing includes free Wi-Fi, sheets and towels, and are located at a maximum distance of 40` to Expanish.

Can I choose the place where I will volunteer?

While there are a few placement areas you can choose from, the exact site depends on your Spanish level, previous experience, program preferences, and which NGO has space for a volunteer.

Is there a minimum Spanish level requirement?

It depends on the NGO; it will vary from no minimum to high intermediate.

Where are the volunteer sites located?

To all volunteer sites you can get eaily by public transport. In some cases there is transfer from the school.
