Student Spotlight: Carmelita, From Sicily To Barcelona
Carmelita Ardizzone, an Italian student from Sicily, talks about her "magical" experience at Expanish Barcelona, a place that she says has captured her heart.
Italians have a strong and historic connection with Barcelona. By latest estimates there are more than 50,000 Italians living in the city, more than any other non-Spanish nationality, who are having a clear influence on the local culture, food and economy. Our own Expanish Barcelona campus is located in an iconic building that is the historic home of one of the oldest and most important Italian cultural associations outside of Italy (La Casa Degli Italiani). We're delighted to continue this tradition as a hub for interculturalism and welcome Italian students to our school, like Carmelita.
Carmelita Ardizzone, from Sicily, recently completed her second program at Expanish Barcelona, an experience she describes as "magical".
"Everything was special for me," she says. "The other students, the teachers, the cultural visits, the workshops at the school... everything was magical."
Carmelita says her Spanish has improved considerably while in Barcelona as she immerses herself the language. "I can speak Spanish with my classmates, my teachers, my friends and I can share experiences with many people from all over the world."
"You have the lessons about grammar but then you also have cultural visits, painting and pottery workshops," she explains. "And in Barcelona you have the opportunity to do so many things, such as going to the beach, visit museums, enjoy the nightlife, and the food... it's a mix of all these magical elements that make this a magical school!"
Carmelita had to return to Italy, for now, but won't rule out coming back again, because, she says: "A piece of my heart will always remain here."
